Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) - up 1500%
ADHD - up 400%
Asthma - up 300%
Allergies - up 400%
Genetics alone don't cause epidemics; they are essentially constant from
one generation to the next.
Epidemics occur when genetic weaknesses are assaulted by environmental
changes such as the introduction of a new virus, bacteria or toxin.
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
ASD is impacted by the digestive system, the person's
biochemical differences, immune system responses, and central nervous
system responses.
While this is being promoted as a new concept, for
nearly 20 years the Wellness & Longevity Center has been looking at the
many factors that impact our bodies. This includes the food we eat, the
air we breathe, the water we drink and the thoughts we think.
Protocols like the 4R approach (remove, repair,
restore, and re-innoculate) are now being touted in the literature as
"New," and this is a process that Dr. Jeff Bland has been researching
and lecturing on since the early '80s and a process that has been
utilized at the Wellness & Longevity Center since its inception.
Over 60% of children diagnosed with ASD have had ear
infections treated with antibiotics. This can cause an inflamed gut that
can leak food particles that the immune system has never seen before
causing the body to mount an attack against them, and then the child may
experience sensitivities to these foods.
The inflammation can also affect the detoxification
system and the child may react to perfumes, smoke, cleansers, odors at
shopping malls, and chemicals in the environment. Symptoms might include
runny nose, headache, brain fog, depression, fatigue, dizziness, pain
mysteriously moving from one spot to another or agitated body movements.
Historically, ASD has been approached as a
genetically-based, untreatable condition. Recent research documents
evidence of inflammation and oxidative stress in the brain, which makes
it hard to explain why a purely "genetic determination" is still being
used as an explanation by many health care providers.
A large part of the immune system is located in or
near the intestinal tract and helps to prevent germs from the intestine
from entering into the body. Defects lead to overgrowth of organisms
like yeast, or an overgrowth of infection. Defects in all parts of the
immune system have been documented in children who have been diagnosed
with ASD.
Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
ADHD is on the rise just as ASD is and the thought is
once again, the combination of toxic factors in modern life coupled with
the current widespread failure to detoxify due mostly to heavy metal
overload and nutritional deficiencies. The symptoms associated with ADHD
are painfully real, but the catch-all label is frequently arbitrary and
misapplied. Some of the traits that are used to define ADHD are often
just personality quirks or normal differences. These traits might
include restlessness, an inability to work well in groups, impatience,
verbosity, or lack of interest in quiet activities. The difference seems
to be that more often than not, the symptoms are viewed as negative
behavior which causes alienation, confusion, distress and a failure to
achieve. Our goal in treating children and adults who have been
diagnosed as having ADHD is to leave their unique personalities and
mental powers intact, but to help them overcome the particular symptoms
that cause them pain. This is done by using individualized, noninvasive
therapies that do not simply mask symptoms, but correct the root causes.
Root Causes of ADHD
-
Toxicity of the brain and body with heavy metals.
-
Toxicity from vaccinations containing thimerosal,
especially when given to a child who is sick or on antibiotics.
-
Toxicity from environmental pollutants.
-
Nutritional deficits that impede detoxification
and impair neurotransmitter function.
-
Food allergies, sensitivities and intolerances
that harm brain chemistry.
-
Inflammation of the brain, particularly from
autoimmunity that is related to streptococcal bacteria.
-
In utero stressors, including environmental
toxins, inoculations, bacteria, viruses, nutritional deficiencies
and emotional stress.
-
Thyroid disorders resulting in impaired energy
and cognitive function.
-
Presence of testosterone in males, which
increases toxicity.
-
Genetic factors that contribute to all these
various assaults on the nervous system, the immune system and the
gastrointestinal system.
Allergies
Allergies are also on the rise and almost anything
can stimulate our immune system into action: foods, pollens, animal
dander, molds, yeasts, bacteria, chemicals. Allergic reactions to common
foods such as milk, wheat, corn, soy, citrus, tomatoes, and peanuts may
be mistakenly attributed to passing viral infections or recurrent
"colds." They may develop because of unbalanced or inadequate diets,
stress, genetic predisposition, infections and inflammations, chemicals,
drugs, environmental pollutants and toxins. Food and inhalant-specific
antibodies promote inflammation of the tissues causing heat, redness,
swelling, pain, and loss of or compromised function. The 5 key
indicators of inflammation may occur in any tissue or organ in the body.
Wherever the blood may flow, inflammatory mediators may follow. That's
why symptoms can vary in location and intensity from person to person.
Digestive system symptoms include colic, indigestion,
nausea, vomiting, irritable bowel syndrome, diarrhea, constipation, gas,
bloating, stomach ulcers, cramping stomach pain. Head and neck symptoms
include ear infections, runny or congested nose, recurrent sinus
infections, headaches, migraines, sore throat, mouth sores. Muscle and
joint symptoms include muscle aches, joint pain, joint inflammation
(arthritis), and most cases of rheumatoid arthritis. Miscellaneous
symptoms include eczema, hives, rashes, psoriasis, and excess
perspiration. Cognitive and psychological symptoms include mood swings,
anxiety, food cravings or "picky eaters," poor concentration, fatigue,
autism, hyperactivity and cranky behavior in children.
Asthma epidemic
Incidence of asthma has increased right along with
ASD, ADHD, and allergies. For many years it was thought that the cause
of asthma was a sudden contraction of the bronchial tubes that bring air
into the lungs so the treatment was to dilate those tubes when they went
in to spasm. Over the past 10-15 years there has been documentation that
there was also an inflammatory component to these attacks where the
muscles and tissues where inflamed and too much mucous was being
produced. The root cause of the inflammation must be found and then
eliminated. These causes include: increased exposure to toxins from the
environment and vaccinations, decreased ability to detoxify due to heavy
metal overload and nutritional deficits, and genetic predisposition. Any
of these can result in impaired ability to detoxify, and thus create
vulnerability to negative lifestyle and environmental factors and
dysfunction of the immune, gastrointestinal and nervous systems.
To make a connection among asthma and ASD, ADHD and
allergies: It is known that the presence of asthma or allergies during a
mother's pregnancy doubles her chances of having an autistic child; that
children with asthma have significantly higher rates of ADHD behaviors,
including poor concentration and conflicts with other children; that
about 77% of asthmatics have chronic gastro esophageal reflux, a common
symptom of food allergies; and that asthma, hypothyroidism and allergies
are the three most common physical conditions present in ASD, and 90% of
children who have asthma also have allergies.
